Thomas Newman composed the main themes for the movie along with the composer FYROS A ND and singer-songwriter Lauv. Fire Town and Ember have Indian themes on Tabla drums. It’s gorgeous and really adds so much to each scene. It’s also Wade’s emotional state as he gets close to the girl he likes. And that boiling effect, it’s not just simple physics. The attention to detail, like when Wade starts boiling when he gets too close to Ember, is everywhere.

Wade and the water people are also full of spirit and effervescence. Ember’s emotional state is so beautifully rendered, be it raging purple flames when she’s angry or a candle snuffed out when she’s sad. Just like an actual flame, it's rather mesmerizing to watch. There's a bit of translucence on the edges of the fire people. Ember and all the fire people have a very cool look to them. In addition to the beautiful scenery, the character designs are also lovely.
Frankly, it’s beautiful and one hopes to see a real city like it one day. Pixar not only returns to what it does best - original storytelling - but the rendering of the whole world of “Elemental.” Reminiscent of both “ Zootopia” and “Meet the Robinsons,” Element City is a visual treasure trove of ingenuity and creativity. It's more sweet than spicy Pixar is doing what it does best: Original storytelling More movie spark: 'Flamin' Hot' tells the story behind the famous Cheetos. And he wants Ember to embrace who she is, not only as the daughter of the family but who she is as an individual. He wants to learn and understand Ember and her family. But he is incredibly open with everything. He means well but sometimes comes across as insensitive. Wade, on the other hand, comes from a privileged background. The solution, in her mind, is to sacrifice herself to her parents’ dream for her. She even agonizes over how she can ever repay that sacrifice. And she feels the weight of her parents’ sacrifice. She’s raised by immigrant parents who have specific dreams for her. She’s a fireball, both literally and figuratively. The writers give Ember a full range of complicated situations to unpack. Ember and Wade’s relationship is both "Romeo and Juliet," but also the story of many immigrant families.
But Pixar’s crew has returned to what it does best: Exposing the deepest feelings of the heart under the guise of everyday emotions. On the surface, the story might feel rote. She realizes there’s more to life than just Fire Town and her father’s shop. That's not to say she doesn't feel the stares or hear the disdain of some of its residents, but by Wade's side, she learns that not everyone is prejudiced. She discovers that the wider world of Element City is full of wonder. Superheroes unite: 'The Flash' gets lost in the multiverse - but at least Michael Keaton's Batman exists thereįrom there, Ember’s insulated life in Fire Town is split open. But soon she's drawn in by Wade's generous spirit. A begrudging connection, on Ember's side, is formed. But he's curious about her and her life in the barrio.
'Elemental' is about building bridges, not barriersīut Wade is not afraid of Ember or Fire Town. The other elements, air, earth and water, keep a wide berth from Fire Town and its denizens. When Ember first meets him, he's crying over an adorable family photo of baby Ember and her parents.Įmber has grown up under the strict impression that fire people don't mix with the other elements. It doesn't take much for him to start blubbering over some one thing or another. Wade is a sensitive guy with a lot of heart. After all, water and fire don’t mix.īut Ember’s preconceived notions are challenged when she meets a bubbling and tear-prone drip of a guy, Wade ( Mamoudou Athie). But the strongest hate is for the water people. And customer service isn’t her forte.Įmber and her family, and all the fire people, hold a stiff prejudice against the other races in Element City.
